70 Thrust Parts

I have a 70 that has excessive endplay, and I figured out why, just need to clarify some things. The part number on the sliger housing/trust cover is R 21625 R, which is verified by Dan in Ohio as being a part from a 730. Not knowing this before, I purchased a new trust plate and felt washers (the old ones were presumably gone) and installed them, but the endplay didn't change. I have heard that I need shims to space out the slinger cover. Anyone know what exactly I need or not need?

I would open the crankcase to see if the thrust washers are in place internally. And adding shims will give you more endplay, no lessen it.
