looking to next year as i had 2 7000 planters, one was old and sat the other was newer set up for no till and finger pick up. i took the old one apart last year and save anything that was worth while. i am thinking of of mounting the fertilizer bar from the one i took apart 6 inches forward of the one on the planter now. how ever i want to take the 28% tanks and mount on tractor, and put dry boxes back on planter. thinking of running 50-60 pounds of 6-24-24 on dry and running 50-60 pounds of 28% on the other side. i have all the drives for the dry and planning to redo all rotating parts. then come back at V-5 and side dress another 50 lbs of 28%, we have more of a heavy clay ground here, been thinking on doing this for a year or so and on the fence if its a good idea or not. planning on using john blue pump for the 28% and have it set up to drive of the planter. seeing what opinions are out there and thanks for input good or bad.

Depending one fertility I would switch to a 9-23-30 it is all fertilizer versus the 6-24-24. We sow 200 per acre of that and then about a pound of N per bushel per acre that you plan for. So if you are looking to get 180 BU you would need about 180 LBS of N this includes the N in the starter. I like to use a 6-15-40 on Beans with the extra Potash in it. IF you are going to side dress corn at V5 why not just put it all on then rather than applying part of it with the planter trip. I'm not a liquid fertilizer guy so I don't know but could one blend the starter with 28 so you would just put down more to start with one program then come back to side dress like you plan with the rest of it. I know you said dry but if you have tanks would that work or not. Would save handling one product and accomplish the same thing. I know we can get a liquid that is not supposed to burn the seed you can put right in the row with the seed so one opener would get both on in the same slot. I hear abut the float balls to monitor the flow for liquid so you know if you have a plug by the level of the balls in the tube. Never used one or been around one. Why not just use a PTO or hydraulic pump with a return for agitation to keep it in suspension. All just thinking not sure if any of it would work or not.

yea i did put some guess numbers on there, my seed guy i bounced the idea off of him. he thinks a good idea but never really set what per acre will go on, i am being careful as to not get to much and injury the roots. and i plan to put my sulfur in with the 28% so now i have a small pump system on the planter that i used for starter and wonder if the is still something i can use that for. i know there a lot of snake oils out there and want to use it for something that will impact the crop. i have not looked in to zinc and i know that is a micro nutrient for corn. i have been running this in my head for the last year or better, so i need to finish my 1466 as we got pushed back planting around here so bad i never got to it this summer, so that the first thing to finish then moving to the planter project. i am planning on buying a 300 plus tractor this fall, as i had the large ripper in the shop a few weeks ago and put the shanks i took off on and i could not get deep enough with 200 hp, and a 180 hp tractor that will be set up and the dedicated planting tractor. thanks for the input.
