I have replaced the torque limiter on my 7040. Replaced all parts including the ring gear. Tractor runs fine and have used it to back blade my driveway. I now want to use it for plowing. I have not done the break in sequence as of yet.According to the manual it seems quite simple. After all the time and money I put into it,I don't want to screw it up by making a mistake now.It calls for 2000 rpm in a lower gear and then hard braking until engine dies. Then repeat procedure. Why would the engine necessarily die? Are you to apply brakes without using the clutch? Seems like i'm missing something. All help would be appreciated. Thanks Dan

Apply the brakes hard while moving and stall out the engine. If
it slips before killing the engine, stop and let it cool down a
minute or so, dont keep slipping it. It might take a couple
times of doing this before the torque limiter seats in. If you
dont seat it in this way, I can slip excessively under use and
burn out your new torque limiter

** Shift it into a gear that is 9 to 10 MPH at full throttle. At wide open throttle stand on the brakes HARD to stall the rear wheels. Don't let it slip for more than 5 seconds or so. Might have to do this a few times, but it should be able to KILL the engine. If you don't do it at the 10 MPH speed full throttle it will not work. Should have done this immediately after the first fire up to get the disc aligned with the centerline of the flywheel.

I will try to break it in today. So high rpms and then hard braking. My original question was why would the engine stall out? Or are you saying hard braking without using the clutch?

** Pretty simple procedure.......10 MPH at FULL THROTTLE and hit the brakes very HARD to stall the rear wheels !!!!! The limiter WILL SLIP initially and then begin to lock up and kill the engine. May take 2 or 3 times but it will eventually become stronger as it seats in and gets hotter each time you do it.

had time today to try and break in the torque limiter. Followed instructions but was unable to get the engine to kill. 12 or 13 time at full throttle, then hard brakes. Nothing. Is the tractor good to use for plowing now or did I miss something?Could the torque limiter have been broken in because I used it to back blade the driveway for a few minutes before I tried the break in procedure?

Sounds a little weak to me. Use it as-is and if you have trouble with it not pulling a heavy load, it'll have to come apart to figure out what is wrong.

The "200rpm" might be a misprint. Or not(shrug) Dunno.

And, your brakes might be like all of the brakes on my tractors LOL. I can't stop goin' uphill ROFLMAO.

Might even be possible that the manual I found online was folded when scanned, and the edge of the page didn't get included...........thereby wiping out the last "0"
