Hello all, just recently got a 706 diesel and she needs rebuilt (bad blow by and a knock). The ser number 13155 s-y. Was wondering how to make sure I get the correct in-frame kit for the D282? Are there numbers for the engine i"m missing, seems to have several different kits available. Thanks for any help, its always much appreciated.

Should have a machined flat on the side of the block just about at the head gasket. one side or the other. Should have a serial number and a engine number like D-282 or whatever the engine is which is the 282. Unless it got changed in the past. Not sure which side will be what. On the D-361 it's on the block like that. Been 40 years since I looked at it.

I believe that the major parts difference was the size of the thrust bearing is larger on later model engines. When I had my 706 the head had smaller sized valves in and 70 HP was all it could do, probably was changed out. If I remember correctly, it was around 36000 or so the ser. no. break was. I don't have my repair manual at work so I 'm guessing.

Isn't there a serial number break on the sleeves, as well?

i have a early 706d with the slip fit sleeves, i does not take much to pull them out, then soon after they changed to more of a standard type sleeve more force to pull the out. then went to the 310 motor, i have a book on serial numbers but i not anyplace for the next day i can get to it.
