Hello all,
I'm looking at buying a 706. It seems to be in great shape, but the one question I have is whether IH ever came up a better way to secure the little pin that holds the pto valve together.
I used to have a 756 for many years and loved it, but it drove me crazy to have to get under the rear end and remove the bottom of the valve, then replace the whole valve once it was pinned together, with oil pouring out the whole time. Terrible engineering.
Does anybody ever come up with a better way to secure the pto valve?
Thanks

Nope , Yep i have been out many times on service calls to FIX that Stupid pin , Just look in the glove box in my Dodge and you will find what looks like a strip of masking tape stuck together and you will find a BUNCH of them pins stuck inside . I will drop the valve and stick the plug back in till i get the two halfs back together then drop the plug and stuff the valve back up in and put the plug back , i usually don't loos more then a qt or two.

That little pin will never break if you shut the pto off with ease. Most guys just
take their hand and slap the handle to shut off. That is what breaks that pin because
of the spring tension. Most farmers learned that the hard way. After I repaired it for
them and told them how to shut it off, they never broke another

Same deals as the rest. Only had one break in 45years with an 806 15 with 856 and about the same with 1466. The 856 we bought used and have no idea how it was treated before then.

I can remember repairing the broken pin on our 756 only one time. Repaired one on a 706 for a friend and on a 826 for another friend. Instead of getting pin from IH parts I used a needle bearing roller from a junked universal joint cross and bearing that had been replaced. It was same diameter but a little long, just used grinder to shorten it enough to use .
