While that is a good suggestion from a maintenance stand point I am not sure if you caught this.

I was on the wrong starter terminals. (Its been a long week) I got it to fire!

I did thanks. I went and cleaned as much as I could. It was pretty clean already, but did it again to make sure. Still nothing, but will keep trying

Fordy has a good point by specifically mentioning the ground connection points. These often times can be overlooked. If it cranked the engine that proves that the connections are capable of carrying the needed amperage for at least some amount of time. A good clean tight connection reliably carries the amperage anytime and for any amount of time it is needed.

Early serial # 706 diesel. For the last little while trying the push button start, it clunks then nothing immediatly after. A few pushes and it will finally turnover. However, tonight it did one clunk, and nothing again. Pushing the button multiple times and not a peep. Figured it was the switch, so jumped the terminals. Nothing. Went to the starter and jumped that, spins freely but wont engage. Figured a boost or hammering the starter would engage....nothing. im guessing the starter is stuck or something. Ideas before I pull it off?

Welp, your issue is the solenoid . if you know what your doing it can be barn yard repaired . After years of starting the copper disc get burnt and pitted . the POS/ post bolt has a square head inside the plastic cover and it is about 60/70 % gone . You CAN flip it 180 and put it back together and it will work for a long time after PROVIDING that the starter bushings and brushes are still serviceable . If the starter is dragging then this will increase amp draw and burn the contact points way faster . One othe thing to check is the clutch safety switch as it MAY be out of adjustment or bad connection of the terminals or it may even be hot wired as many have been over the years and sometimes the MICKEY MOUSE repairs done may not be making good contact .
