Hello all, 706, Farmall, I planted about 200 acres of beans with it, TA works good, I slide it backwards (quickly) to ta mode at the end of each row and it always shifts to low range like it should, never misses once. I just curious because when i slide it forward into high side to speed up on the next row after turn around, sometimes it will pause , when i slide it forward, like it will just "fall out of gear" for like 3 seconds then it will catch. like it will roll to almost but not quite a complete stop then catch, which i don't like because it feels like popping the clutch when it catches. all ta linkages are tight, adjusted correctly, and so on. planting is all done with it, but just curious now as i can look into it... other times it will shift into high just fine. any possible thoughts, comments, ideas? thanks everyone. i think it maybe something to do inside of the mcv? I'm not sure.

Just leave the TA forward or take the handle off when it's in the forward position and just slow down to turn around and it's not made to slow down with it is to shift down into a lower gear under a hard Pull or load that's why the TA goes out

The drive in low side of TA is strictly mechanical through the sprag (over running clutch) but assisted with the free wheeling prevention clutch pack that will actually pull a light load. The only way your tractor can slow down to a slower speed than it was going with the lever back in TA is for that sprag to slip. The slow recovery to direct drive indicates wear in the direct drive clutch as well. I would think your red light would be blinking during the shift to Direct drive also. Does your red light come on every time you push clutch down, it is supposed to.

Make sure your selector spool on MCV is fully down against the snap ring in direct drive and that is about all you can do. You could put gauges on regulated pressure and lube pressure but from your symptoms, I don't think you will be able to resolve anything without TA repair. Leave it in direct drive when at all possible and go from there.

Im not using the TA to slow down like people think, i only used the ta to slow down at the end of the row to turn around so i don't loose my air pressure in the planter. I'm on all flat ground, with the planter still in the ground putting a load on the tractor is when i pull the ta, then i lift it up and make my turn in the field. i plow to much dirt if i go to fast and loose seed pressure when i throttle down. I'm not going down a hill with a wagon full of feed pulling it back, there is a difference between those two.

The three seal rings on the main shaft in the TA housing is probably getting worn on the the the locks are probably broke that's why when you shifted forward you getting the pressure loss in there and that's why it won't let a shift Like it should

Nothing wrong with how you're using the ta, people think they are experts on how others do things for some reason. I use mine the exact same as you do and haven't had a problem with my ta, ever....

I drove my 806 and 856 the same way when planting and never any trouble. The tractor is on the wrong side of fifty so the TA could use a refresh maybe,

Like pete23 said, the low side of the TA is gear driven by a sprag (i.e. one-way) clutch, so it should not slow down when you shift to direct. If it does, that means the sprag clutch is not catching, which means it is worn out. There's nothing you can adjust to fix this.

It drives in low because of the anti-freewheeling clutches mentioned above. These aren't designed to pull a load, so they will not last long.

Unfortunately your TA has more days behind it than ahead of it, I'm afraid. You can try to limp through planting with it but plan on having to replace the TA once that's done.
