706 torque amplifier

hey everyone, i just put a new torque amplifier in my 706 and resprung and sealed the mcv. i started it today for the first time, and ive got a few little problems. with the lever ahead, it doesnt matter if the tractor is moving or not, it wants to stall the tractor out. it really doesnt want to move in high either. also if i push on one brake it will bring the tractor right around. if i step on both brakes at once the tractor will stop, and not lug the engine at all. it makes me think i messed something up with the mcv valves. im thinking its not the drive selector because it does change the speeds. i just am not sure where to start looking.

Sounds like you have low pressure. Might check the o-rings on the three tubes that feed the T/A. Suggest not operating in this condition, it takes very little slippage to wear the cluthes out and your starting over again. Also check for leakage in the gaskets of MCV (internal) and that you have installed the right gasket in the right place (experience). I don't remember having a speed change though.

It sounds like the sprague clutch is in backwards. With the TA in the low position it pulls on the hydraulic clutch on the low side. This clutch is designed to keep the tractor from free-wheeling when going down hills. It will not pull the tractor under load by itself. That is the purpose of the sprague.

With the sprague in backwards it will lock up when the TA is in the high side so you will now have both sides locked up at the same time which will kill the engine. Most likely the MCV is OK because you know it shifts the TA and you have steering and brakes.

owen is right. When the sprag is in backwards it will kill the tractor on the spot.

thanks guys, i guess i will tear it all apart again and fip the sprague over. its to bad you have to have it all together to test it. later
