70D after a rollover

My dad was on his way to the local JD dealership for pony motor clutch adjustments when the RR wheel came off sending him and the tractor over a 40' embankment.

Luckily a good samaritan found him and called 911. He got to take a helicopter ride to Iowa City as a result. Broke a few ribs, both collar bones, and bruised a lung; luckily he was thrown clear. It happened Tuesday and he was moved out of the ICU late yesterday so it looks like he will make complete but slow recovery.

Anywho.....I am looking for someone in Eastern IA/Western IL who can survey the damage, provide an estimate, repair the damage, adjust the pony and finish the tractor. The sheetmetal is complete and ready for install. Email me if you know of fair and honest Deere restorer within a couple hundred miles of the Quad Cities.

Be careful out there and check those wheel clamps regularly. Other pictures are posted on "stuck and troubled." -Jeff

I'm glad he is okay, I'm gonna check those lugs!!!!!

Good luck with finding a rebuilder and tell your Dad it will be OK.

Were you able to talk to your Dad ? Is he in good enough shape to remember it all clearly ?

That wheel may of popped off after the tumble ?

Anything can happen anytime anywhere. You mainly hear of alot of these tractors wrecked from when the steering shaft roll pin came out or the power steering system malfunctioning.

I have not been able to speak with him yet though my sister and mom have. He was already wondering how badly the tractor was damaged.

He doesn't remember anything about the accident.

Since the sheetmetal was allready off there's a really good chance the steering shaft was not pinned back in place and saftey wired and it could of popped out. That would be the first place I'd look anyhow. I'd also think that tire and rim would be all beat up if it can off going down the road ? It is hard to tell from the pictures.

What's done is done however, but knowing how may help save the next guy from harm.

Jeff,
You might try talking with Corwin "Cork" Groth at Eldridge, IA. He is known for restoring GP"s. If he is not willing to work on it, he might know of other restorers in the area. If you can"t find his number, give me a call at (812) 259-1706. Glad your dad will be alright.

Dennis
