715 feeder and feeder chain issues

A few questions related to our recently purchased 715:
--we are having problems with wheat balling behind header auger and not being picked up by feederhouse chain. It seems to be more of a problem in sparse areas and also when combining downhill. We slacked off feederhouse chain far beyond specs and it did some good but problem still persists.
--maybe related to above: clutch controlling header & feederhouse chain is slipping. Again, we adjusted it (with extra washers) beyond what is recommended. Will I ultimately need to replace springs? Advice appreciated.

I had the same problem with beans last year, I put a new rubber flap on the top, that seemed to help, I just used a old piece of conveyor belting, also make sure that the bottom of the feeder house doens't have a bunch of wet crap in it, if you leave it outside it will build up in there.

take a angle grinder and make the flighting on the header auger square again. also the slats on the feeder house chain may also need to be touched up with a square edge. international combines are known to do this. Rob

Is the feeder chain installed correctly ? The slats have a long and a short lip. The long lip should contact the grain first. It is possible someone put the chain in backwards. If it is backwards it will not feed very well.
