Is there a hydrauilc motor to control the header speed on an IH 715 combine. if not, how do you change the speed? How do you change the cylinder speed? Are 715 parts easy to find? Are 715's a better combine then a Deere 6600? Any common problems with either combine? How are they Compared to a 6600 deere? thanks

Yes the reel is hydraulic driven on the 800 series heads. The cylinder is driven with a variable speed sheave. Yes parts should be easy to find there was a bunch of 715"s built. The 6600 is a larger machine. 715 and 4400 would be about the same size. IMHO the 715 is would be the easier machine to maintain.

A 715 is basically a re-tinned 403 and 403's had a very good reputation. Most of these older machines just changed sprockets to change cylinder and reel speeds. Hydraulic reel drives were an option along with a variable belt cylinder drive. Parts are getting hard to find for the old walker IH machines. Even the will-fits are dropping them. A 715 is about the same as a 4400 and the 815 is close to a 6600. A 1420 rotary would be between a 715 and an 815 and has parts available. It will outlast a walker machine many times over.

I've seen both ends. Watched a nice 715 gasser, belt drive, chain drive on the reel and cylinder sell for $450 at an auction. Neighbor has a diesel 715 with a hydro and variable speed drive to everything. Thats the one I want.

The separator clutch went out on my 715. Is that common? Looks like quite a job to fix. Anyone changed one?
