720 Tinkering

Brought the 720 into the garage to do a bunch of small things to it. New battery cables, moving the wheels and fenders out, install steps on the front of the axle and fix a couple oil leaks. Plus what ever else I run across while working on it. Want to get it all finished before I bring in the next big project. Also installed new 3 point arms etc because someone had taken them off before I bought it ???? Makes you wonder.

Yes i actually did all that adjusting and setting up stuff when I had it on the dyno last spring. Thanks for the input.

Thank you. It is a nice tractor. I was lucky to find it so close to home. Hasnt needed very much big work just a bunch of little stuff.

It did pretty good. Held a steady 60 hp for half an hour and
we had peek hp of 64 briefly.

A neat tractor, but I do like the standard version a bit more. I was fortunate to be able to break in a new 720 Standard for a neighbor farmer who I worked for in 1957. The break-in was a full day in 1st gear with a full load, then the 2nd day in 2nd gear with full load and finally 3rd day in 3rd gear with full load.

Do you need break-in for new tractors these days?>

Yes with some they just dont want you to run at the same high rpm full load for any great length of time. Varying the load and rpm seems to be the way now. Some dealerships run the tractors on a dyno to give them a bit of break in before the customer picks it up.

Best to check the dyno box calibration as it noted slightly higher torque (608) than what calculates for 60 H.P. at 528 RPM.
T = 5250 X H.P./RPM so torque actually ~597 at those figures.

Thanks for the math lesson. Never have been good at that. The dyno is owned by a John Deere dealer close to me. So it may need adjustment.
