7230 fuel transfer pump

My 7230 has gone thru 7 mechanical fuel transfer pumps in the last 15 or so years. The symptems are when it gets down to about 2 bars of fuel showing on the gauge it shuts down because it can no longer pull the fuel from the tank. Secondly there is some loss of power.

Each time I have replaced it with a Cummins ABF JV unit from CIH. This is expensive. So I have 3 questions.

Can anyone help me determine why they fail?

Secondly there is really not much inside them. Does anyone make a rebuild kit?

Last, are there other options?

Thanks,
DeWayne

what is the condition of the in line filter before the pump? have you ever drained the tank from the bottom to see if there is any contamination? you might try to put a mighty-vac hand pump on the line from the tank and see how much draw it takes to get fuel to move or at all.

Ran into similar problems on a friend's 7210 (same Cummins 8.3 as your 7230). Installed a new transfer pump and got the engine running, I found the old pump filled with debris when I opened it up. I recommended she drain/flush the tank and change all the filters before using the tractor again.

She dutifully did this; the tractor has since accumulated about 400 hours over the past 3 years with no further problems.

Yes the inline filter has been changed regularly. I am debating what I could use as a hand pump to help determine the suction required to lift the
fuel to the transfer pump. Do you know if anyone sells a rebuild kit for these transfer pumps? Thanksj

here are some things that may help you in troubleshooting.
I have yet been able to locate the part number for the check valves
