7230 hydraulic failure

I believe this is considered the premium version. Has powershift, power shuttle. Has over seven thousand hours with virtually no hydraulic issues. Problem came on while operating. Suddenly lost all hydraulic functions (steering, remotes, loader, three point) at low RPM. At idle nothing works. As RPM goes up things begin to operate but slowly. At full throttle hydraulics operate but not at full speed.

Filters changed, (nothing unusual found) with no improvement. It acts like an open center system with an extremely tired pump. Best way I can describe it. Seems hard to believe a pump would fail that quickly. I was told the tractor was started briefly with the filter canister off and no oil came out. Maybe the problem is related to the charge pump?

The 7030 series having both charge pump and hydraulic pump integrated / In same case, both are driven
from common drive train off front of transmission. If filter at charge / hydraulic pump has no filter
inlet pressure or flow from open port with filer removed, indicates charge pump is not pumping or turning
at all?? Remove and check differential case suction screen first, if not plugged / restricted, most
likely a charge pump failure. Don't make sense how you had some hydraulic functions if there was no oil
from filer port?? Possibly pump shaft failed between the charge and hydraulic pump inside of pump
housing? Or pump drive at front of transmission has failed which is not likely?? DW

I admit I know nothing about this system. I was just told the suction screen was removed and was found to be clean. If that's the case, could there be anything other than a charge pump related issue? What's in the charge pump? Gerotor, gears, vanes ??? Parts list doesn't show the internals(at least I didn't see any), just the pump as a unit. Like $1100.

I see the pumps are driven through a set of bevel gears from a drive shaft, which I assume connects solidly to the engine. There should be no "partial engagement" that could vary with engine RPM.

What were you using it on when it faild. What vavles do you have mec or elec . the valves can crack and do what you are talking about .

This is the price I find[ for 7230 charge pump. Have you checked to be sure valve(item 18) isn't stuck open?

AL232071 PUMP, , CHARGE, 59CCM ADD 638.90 USD

Harry, Bevel drive gears were used to drive pumps when hydraulic pump was located under the seat last used on TEN series tractors?? 20 and 30 series tractors, pumps were moved forward to front of transmission?? No bevel gears. If you truly have a 7230 model / series tractor, the charge pump is a gerotor and is not serviceable. If failed most likely shaft in pump assembly is broke?? Complete pump assembly would have to be replaced. DW

Harry, I was wrong your tractor is a small chassis with pump under seat. I was thinking of the large
chassis 30 series tractors like the 76.78,7930 tractors. You may have had a draw pipe between charge pump
and screen come loose in differential case.

Truth be told, I haven't done anything to this tractor yet except start it up and observe what it does/doesn't do for maybe thirty seconds
or so. Others had pulled screen and filter before I got there. I looked over the rockshaft at the pumps and decided to get some
info/opinions before jumping into it. Not a lot of room to work in there, plus it hadn't been cleaned off yet. Pretty nasty.

From what I was told the tractor was pulling a seeder, refreshing pasture. The loader was being used(without bucket) intermittently to push
some brush out of the way at the edges of the field. All was working well until it suddenly wasn't. I THINK the rear scv's are electric, as
well as the three point. Neither were in use at the time. The seeder is pull type, and the loader is cable controlled from a mid mount valve
stack.

What exactly is #18 in the diagram Jim posted? Could that be a charge pressure relief? As for any tubes below the pump, how the h___ does
one get to that?

Harry
I'm guessing item 18 is a relief valve BUT my experience with tractors after 55 series is near zero & I have no access to your model tractor TM
