Did you use two 1/2-13 bolts in the tapped holes near the center? Those are intended to let you push it off the tapered spline. I always leave the bolt and washer loose in the end of the crank because when the hub breaks free of the taper it can come all at once and fly off. It may require some heat. Got a picture of what you are working with - depending where it broke may give you some trouble now.
