Was watching some utube videos about 730 tractors. One showed an Argentine 730 that had only a foot clutch. How did they do that? There was no hand clutch lever. Was that normal on the Argentine tractors? Also saw a 3420. looked like a 4020 with a 329 motor.Any know anything about them? Thanks,Steve

I went to you tube and found the same thing. The video was shot at the left side of the tractor and it very plainly showed the guy stepping down on a foot clutch, putting it in gear and letting the clutch out to make it go. I've heard of this before but never seen it till now.

There was a complete foot clutch "kit" for a 730 for sale on ebay about 6 months ago.Believe it sold for $2000+ They show up from time to time.

1st tractor in video JD Seller posted was a 3530. According to Tractordata 3530(5.4L engine) & 3420(5.0L engine) are built in Rosario,Argentina.

Its too bad JD didn't offer the foot clutch option in the 50s in the US. That would take away some of hate for 2 cylinders. I'll admit they weren't the handiest tractor on a loader.

They had a foot clutch that was standard for the PTO. I wonder if,when they used the foot clutch for the main tractor clutch, did they go to a hand clutch for the PTO? Seems like that would have been quite a tap dance to use both foot clutches at once.

The foot clutch for the PTO is entirely different from a foot clutch for the transmission. The PTO clutch is a "latch-over-center" clutch, they had to re-arrange the location of the the Hand lever when they added the 3pt hitch, so it was put forward, the pedal acted the same as lifting the handle to latch over center. The foot clutch for the transmission is much like the clutch for a truck,it is engauged till the pedal releases it, no latch over center configuration. And the belt pulley was deleted in the foot clutch version. You need to keep in mind that before the 720's were in production Deere was testing the "heck" out of proto type 3010's and 4010's,,so with the New Generations near ready to hit the market no effort to change the hand clutch design was on the table.

Ya,I just wouldn't have wanted to try to run both at once though. I used to run a round baler with the 730 that I had. That would have been tiring to run both foot clutches every time I kicked out a bale.

I think I read somewhere that some of the clutch parts (pressure plate, etc.) used in these conversions were actually GM truck parts.

Please note the statement is prefaced with " I think I read somewhere..."

Thats a good question... not the 730 hi crop either has no PTO, or has had the linkage changed. The PTO pedal is not there!

Any other pics of these out there?

Not trying to be rude. But if you think JD made those foot clutch, I sure would like a parts book that shows me that. I have an Argentina 730 parts books and it is not in there, but the foot throttle is. I also have a foot clutch and it clearly has who made it aftermarket written right on it and they are still in business today. JD never made them. The PTO is turned on by a extended piece of flat iron which is pictured in the picture that was post.

I talked to the argentina company just last summer and they wanted 2600 dollars fob Logansport Indiana. for the complete kit later john cummins

Why re-invent the wheel when off the shelf parts are acceptable for the application .

I farmed with a 730 diesel 50 years ago and I would have loved to have had one of these, I used that tractor 10 years and only replaced the batteries and the clutch, it was a good one.
