i did an estimate in my head. the heads need to be done, could be another 800 - 1000. the crank might need regrinding plus engine brgs. its going to be a lot more than 1250.00 plus there is the injection system. from his question to my answer is more realistic with the info provided. got to look at the major side.

Rusty!! It's a Gasser. Be optimistic!! Crank could be in excellent shape, as a CASE crank, in a tractor having proper maintenance usually is. A simple valve job and he's good to go!! I priced the parts, it's anybody's guess what else he is looking at.

John, is that set the one with the slight popup? If patterned after the M&W that is a nice set.

well he asked the question , i gave what i figured in my experiences dealing with these expensive parts. so what is your price for him to have a rebuilt running engine.? plus thats a very vuage question he is asking.

Rusty: You vaguely answered the question you just asked me. Neither you or I can tell him, unless we are right there measuring the crank, inspecting the block, and scrutinizing the heads. I only told him what an inframe kit would cost. As you alluded to, how could anyone tell him more without more info? I gave him a starting point. He could possibly get by with a simple in frame kit if his crank is good, and he is able to simply lap the valves himself. You were under the impression he was dealing with a diesel.

you guys make me laugh with this valve lapping from the 1920's . its an obsolute deal now. before valves got lapped after gringing the valves to get them to seat. it is not done anymore. u tell me how you gonna get the valve seat width correct by lapping an old worn out seat and valve face. i used to grind valves.

Again, you are using a worst case scenario, worn out seat and valve face. We have customers still lapping valves when that's all they need. I still rebuild heads, and when I am done, I vacuum check them.
