'74 International Cub Question

Hello,
I purchased a 1974 International Cub tractor a few month's ago. It is warm here now that I can do some work on it. Anyway I know absolutely nothing about this machine, but that there are a few issues with it that need attention. I need to know if the hood and gas tank were a composite. It looks like where the engine cover meets the tank has been welded together. Is this factory, and do I need to take the two off together as a unit? I have no manual for this particular tractor yet, and I am looking for one. I appreciate any responses.
Thanks in advance, Sapper

Original manuals can be found on ebay, and reprints are available from dozens of sources, including this site (IIRC), ebay, a place called "Binder Books" and many others.

Just FYI the Cub was produced virtually unchanged (mechanically, very minor improvements only) from 1947 to 1979, so nearly all of the information in an early manual will pertain to your 1974 model. The main differences will be the shape of the hood, and the 12V electrical system.

I would add that the hood is one piece. I also would say to be very very careful hooking the metal gas line back up so you do not strip out the threads. You can convert to a couple of compression fittings and a rubber hose. Yours should have a generator if not mistaken. The altinators are NEGATIVE ground like a car. The CUBS are positive ground if they have a generator. Hope i have all of this correct. If you have a 12 volt cub you can use a large amp lawn tractor battery. My 1977 CUB Spins right over with one. Had a 375 and a 420 CCA in her. No need to buy that special fit battery they want to sell you.

The 12 volt generator like your 74 model is NEGATIVE GROUND
