750 Massey fuel problems Day 3

It rained all day, so when I got home, I went out to the shed and climbed up on the 750 and hit the starter and it started on its own. Maybe I finally got it fixed. Guess I'll find out when it dries off enough to cut beans again. I was really getting fed up with it, about ready to send it to China in cubes. Chris

Since in is raining get a 12 v fuel pump and mount it above the fuel tank. Run a wire key hot to it. When it dies out go back and hook up fuel lines and put in the fuse. I am sure it will fix your problem. We fought it over a year and was ready to trade ours, when our friend bet us a case of adult beverage it would fix it. It sure did! I thought it could cause a leak to show up where it was sucking air. It never happened. We have been running it this way for over 12 years. PLease save yourself some frustration and try it. We used a clicker style pump from Napa.

Sounds like a good idea, I think I'll do that. I have talked to other 750 owners who have done that and eliminated the problem. Question? Did you leave the lift pump connected, and the electric pump pushes the fuel thru it? As I reread your post it sounds like you only added electric pump to the fuel line. Thanks, Chris

We left the manual in place. We replaced it once after the electric pump was installed. We were somewhat afraid for long term use. Well the new transfer pump worked all of 10 min before the cutting out began. Hooked up electric again and were back in buisness. We finally decided that the manual pump was definatly starving the injection pump, and the electric did not seem to. We are on the second electric pump, and when the first electric unit failed we could not even get it home! We are thinking of removing the transfer pump because one of the fittings in it keeps leaking. We tightined it up again yesterday, but if it comes loose again we will hook straight up to the filters.

IF you put the electric pump on you might as well get rid of the mechanical pump. Make a plate to bolt over the hole. At least plumb around the mech pump. They do fail at time dumping fuel into the crankcase.
