770 Case RPM

I have a question regarding a 770 Case diesel. Is it better to run it 1/2 to 3/4 throttle and labor the engine in a higher gear, or shift down a gear and run it wide open?

depends on the load you are pulling, if it is really lugging by all means go to a lower gear and run the engine wide open, if you have a lighter load and it handles it fine at lower rpms it will save fuel and the crank has to turn fewer revolutions running at reduced engine speed
