going to be looking at a Cockshutt 770 for sale...

any 770 owners care to brag, or complain, about theirs?

Seller says its a '64, runs, used last year but now has one split rear tire.

I have one. Don't use it but I like to look at it. They are a nice looking tractor and not many around here. Try to buy a plow for it right now. Maybe take it to a show this year.
You looking at a gas or diesel?

Im not real fussy on fuel, currently dont have a diesel in the yard but I have owned them in the past. I dont NEED another tractor... Im semi retired and lookin for a project, this 770 is one of several Im planning to look at.

I have a 770 Cockshutt diesel standard sitting in the barn right now. Don’t use it much, planted beans with it a few times with a 15’ IH 5300 drill. It runs my pto generator awesome. I pull 2-16s at plow day with it with no problems, sometimes in 4th gear. This one is the best starting Oliver diesel I have had. It’s a fun toy. Row crop with 3pt would be handier, but the price was right on this one. Nothing stands out in my mind as a weak point on them or at least no different than any other Ollie from that time period.

Love my 770. It starts every time! I wish that I had more stuff to do with it. It steers super easy. I haven't plowed much with it but I used a three bottom on some sod. My brother set the plow way too deep but it pulled it okay. The hydraulic oil leaks into the rear end, the front main seal on the engine leaks and it needs a clutch...other than that it's perfect!

If I do pick this one up I would just be cleaning it up and re-selling it, hopefully make a buck in the process and go find another one(Cockshutt) to tinker on. I flip alot of old garden tractors of any brand but with the big tractors I stick to the Cockshutts. I might be tempted to keep a little 540 but I dont have any need for something this size.... and I already have a 50 that I plan to restore and hang on to.
