800 missing badly after storage

Started my 800 after 7 months storage. Used Sta-Bil before storing. It ran fine for a few minutes and then started missing. I changed the spark plugs, drained the fuel and treated the new fuel with Sea Foam. It is still missing , seems to be on all cylinders. New plugs are sootie. It is getting plenty of fuel to the carb.

Might it be time to rebuild the carb???

Check your spark.
Always VERIFY that you have good spark before moving on to fuel.
Pull your distributer cap and use a piece of brown paper grocery bag and wipe between the contacts on the points. Then pull a spark plug wire and check for a bright bluish white spark that will jump at least 1/4"

I took the sediment bowl off amd drained 3 gallons of fuel out of the tank. It ran a good stream and I changed the tank valve last year.

Why would it run fine for a few minutes and be spark? Not argueing, just asking a question.

Condenser, coil, or switch going bad could cause it to die off like that. My money would be on the ignition switch. (if it is spark related)

To check fuel flow you might want to remove the screw from the bottom of the carb. and see hoe the flow is. I am not saying that is it but, that is how I check my flow..just saying.

Could be a couple of problems. Poor spark, check it and make sure you have a good blue/white spark that will jump a 1/4 inch gap. Next pull the drain plug from the bottom of the carb and let it drain for a few minutes. Catch the gas to look for rust and water. Also check and clean the air cleaner. I would also pour a 1/4 cup ATF in each cylinder and let it sit over night and also put a quart of ATF in to 5 gal of gas so as to help free up sticking valves and rings

If the sprk is good and if the plugs are sooty, check the mixture settings on the carb. It appears to be running rich.

Put some fresh gas in the tank.Stabil contain mostly naptha.Seafoam is a mix or iso alcohol, naptha and mineral oil.The plugs are gas fouled, put them in a covered jar of lacquer thinner and soak for a while.Dont rely on high priced additives.Naptha is a lousy motor fuel.Try running an engine on a small amount. That will get you off snake oil with naptha in it.

It is HIGHLY unlikely that your symptoms are carburetor related.

Most likely ignition related.

Did you remove ALL old fuel from the tank and carburetor BEFORE you changed the plugs?

Did you flood the enginie AFTER you changed the plugs?

If the answer to either question above is yes, change or sandblast the plugs.

Check the points for corrosion as well.

When did you last change the spark plug wires?

(quoted from post at 09:23:08 01/09/12) Starts good then gets rough, sounds like air flow restriction...I'm just sayin. Al

I would also question air flow. After 7 months a whole passel of meeces could have taken up residence inside the air filter. Or even inside the head going in past a partially open valve! Seen it. Didn't like it.
