800 Series Front Spindle

I"ve searched the Ford forum and not found my issue addressed. Here goes:

I have a 820 running well enough and am slowly restoring it. My grandfather bought it used in 1964. As long as we"ve owned this machine the left front tire has rubbed against the both head on top of the spindle. It has been worn or ground off on one side so it no longer hits the tire. The right front tire is fine. I probably need to replace some parts like bearings and/or bushing but haven"t gotten into it that far. I"m wondering about the cause/need for the bolt being flattened like that. Thoughts on maybe the thing being bent and I need to replace the entire spindle? The wheel is still true, it"s not warped or bent. I need to put new tires on the front but before I do that want to get the metal parts right. I can just see putting a new tire on it and cutting a big gouge into it on the first revolution! Thanks for the thoughts on this one.

B.B.
I had the same problem.
the two front wheels were
different off sets.what i am saying the wheel it self was the problem. new wheel fixed it
first thing to do is take the front wheel off the right side & put it on the left side see if you still have the same problem.

Really? Interesting fix. I'll have to give it a try. My right front is spitting parts of rubber left and right and all over the place. When I swap it out for a new one I'll do that, see what happens. I'll keep you posted.

My tractor also had this problem when I got it.
I rebuilt the front end; new wheel bearings and spindle king pin bushings and the problem went away.
The wrong size or type of tire can also cause this problem because even when everything is right the tire just does clear the bolt in the steering arm.
If you have a loader on this tractor I would be looking for bent spindles also.

The bearing are gone in the hub. The rubber you see is the seal being chewed up. You may have already damaged the spindle.

All righty then.....Thanks guys. I've got enough information to confidently figure out and fix the front end issues. As it stands right now this tractor is in better shape than I can remember, except maybe when my Granddad bought it back in '64.
