Hello all. Currently in the process of rebuilding a 1959 Case 800 Diesel. I have the block back from the shop now and am going to install piston sleeves. I have the full shop/service manual for the model, but I cannot find anywhere what the proper sleeve protrusion is. Is there a specific spec for this? Thank you very much for the replies. This is my first time rebuilding an engine like this and I do not have a lot of experience. Any tips or tricks would be greatly appreciated!

I would like a minimum of .002 and a couple more would not hurt, they should be even across all four cylinders, the best way would be to do a check on the counterbores to assure they are not eroded as you will not pick that up just dropping the sleeves in. The counterbores should be checked at least 4 different positions around the bore

Mel is spot on. Use a stud and clamp to hold down the piston sleeve. Then check what protrusion you have. Your service manual shows you how to do just that. Feel free to ask more questions. Chuck Machinist
