OK- WHat"s the trick to get a wrench in there to remove the SS flare nut from under the gas tank (off the shut off valve) ? There is a hole/crack on the SS gas line. Trying to patch it with a piece of rubber and clamps hasnt worked.

I"ve tried small wrenches, pliers, ect-- I just cant get in that tight space.

Surely one doesnt have to remove the gas tank to get to this fitting ??

Piney:

You can remove the fuel line from the fuel valve without removing the tank and/or valve if the corners of the fuel line nut have not been rounded off. I use a small open ended wrench. It helps if your hands are not too large.

You can even remove and replace the valve without removing the tank. I can change the fuel valve in any of my 50s-60s 4 cylinder tractors in about 1/2 hour. The first time you do it will be a struggle but the next time will be a snap.

If I remember correctly, I had to remove the valve cover to get enough room to replace the fuel shutoff & strainer on my 861 - bit easier than removing the gas tank!!!
Good Luck.
