8000 401 Injector tips and compression

8000 has been starting harder and harder as years have gone by. Decided to pull the closest injector to the front of tractor out today. It was wet with oil and this is what the tip looked like. Is that normal? Going to check compression next, what should that be?

Very normal. Compression should be in the 350ish PSI range.

A little sooty but normal
I would have it pop tested, if it’s bad pull them all to replace or retip
As Bern said compression should be in the 350ish psi range, 300ish range is not going to cold start well, 250ish range it’s time to consider a rebuild

My 8000 was a hard starter but improved dramatically after I changed the oil in the injection pump cam box. I don't think the PO knew about changing it because what I drained out was very thin. I would start with the simple things.

My 9000 always started very easily until I had oversized cups and spools or whatever they are in it. Then I had to quit starting it in the cold. I never used it when cold anyway.
