8000 injection pump timing

How do i time the injection pump on a 8000. I dont have a book and i want to put it in now rather then wait for one to show up. Just had engine rebuilt

Pump timing marks should align at 23 degrees BTDC with number one, front cylinder on compression stroke.

At 23 degrees it will always be on compression stroke right. If not how will i tell

To verify number one is on compression stroke, look at number SIX valves. The EXHAUST will be closing. If not, crankshaft needs one complete turn. Pistons one and six
move together, but the CAM determines which piston is ready to fire.
