I have a '59 800B LP that I'm restoring this winter. It was pumping COM oil into the rear end to the tune of about 4 gals in 6 hours playing around at plow days this past fall. Tore it apart and found the forward PTO shaft seal in the clutch drum had been rolled over when it was assembled last (exactly what the service manual warns about)
My first question is, what should I do while I have it apart? I have already pulled the drum/input shaft to change both bearings and the seal. The drum is grooved very slightly- not enough to worry about, IMO.
John Saeli mentioned in an email today that I should look at the direct drive clutch. Should I go ahead and pull the converter apart and put a new disk in? The COM worked perfect, other than the transfer of oil (and leakage on both ends of the center section.
Probably will pull the oil pump apart and inspect. Both spools on the valve seep, so I'll take it down too.
This is my first COM, so I might be back for more questions.
Thanks.
