801 Ford stalled

I have a Ford tractor with a 172 engine. Has a complete overall with all new parts, (rings, piston and pins, sleeves, rod bearings, main bearing, crank turned, head and valves reworked. It runs and sound great until the engine warms up than it makes kindly grind noise and shut down until its cool off then will crank and do the same thing. I COULD USE SOME ADVICE. It was overall by a well 40 year old train mechanic. My and his first thought was maybe one of the cylinder was galled. The piston were check for clearance before they were installed, not 100% sure that they were check after installed. I do know that it was oil prime before it was cranked.

What is the oil pressure like on it both cold and warm?? What are the temps of the engine when it stalls?? Do you see any metal in the oil on the dip stick??

ditto what old said. when hot, at stall.. what is oil pressure doing.

also.. rigth at stall, will it turn over easilly.. or is it labored.. or seized?

I didn"t see any metal in the oil or on the oil stick. Engine has 48# oil pressure both cold and hot. I don’t know the exact temp but I know as quickly as it warms up (about 15-20 Min.)I said it makes a (grind noise in my first post) but I think its more of a squeeze noise and stop. I did not try to turn it over because I felt it was going to seize up so I waited until it cool off about one hr. and it started right up until it warmed again and then the same. I didn"t want to do more damage to the motor. I will check the temp when I have more time; my hay has to be put up for the next few days.

Well first of try this. Try to turn the engine over by hand by way if the fan when cold. Then run it and will it has its problem try to again turn the engine over by hand. That way you sort of get a feel for the way it should or did feel

Your symptoms sound like ring gap too small. Running until it gets so much friction it shuts off is not good. That typically will damage ring lands, rings, cylinder walls, cranks, con rods and bearings.

What ring gap did you have on the compression rings?

Could also be from tight bearing clearance.
What was the bearing clearance? How measured? Platigage or inside mic?
