801 left brake rod

Can anyone tell me, or give a picture of the left brake rod as it goes through the tractor? I'm trying to figure out if it passes through a compartment, or is isolated. Mine sticks through the tractor. I'm full of hydraulic fluid, and I'm betting I'm real low on rear end oil. Filling when I do the pto seal, but will that lubricate my brake rod?

Parts book of axle center housing and brake controls shows a set of bushings but no oil seals
This would indicate that the brake shaft does not run through the compartment where the gears and oil are

Thanks for the info! Looks like I've got something else to dig into :D

Is there an issue with the brake rod?
PTO seal is fairly simple, even if it may be a while before tackling the pto seal you should check the axles fluid level, you don’t want to run it to low and burn up gears or bearings, that would get real costly

ya, there's been a problem for a while apparently. Just got her running (new to me), and the left brake sticks through the rod pretty bad. I'll fix that pto this winter before it gets ran again, change all the fluids and top everything up.

Has it been setting a while, might try spraying PB Blaster or other good penetrating fluid on the brake shaft where it goes through those two bushings
One on each side

The pins in the clevises also, they have been known to freeze up, with lack of use. Especially if they have ever been around a barnyard.

What you call a rod is a shaft. Goes thru the bell housing just behind the clutch shaft.
That tractor is at least 45 years old and that shaft probably has enough wear that it is binding up.
Your problem is someplace else, maybe inside the brake itself.

Your thanking about a 800 series with the brake shaft running through the bell housing
Ford moved that shaft back to the rear axle on the 801 series

There’s a provision cast in the axle’s center housing for the rake cross shaft, but I think it actually runs under the sump and not through it. Parts book shows bushings but not seals to prevent oil leaks, the 65/newer models that have the shaft going through the sump have seals to prevent oil leaks
