801 Selecto-O-Speed

My transmission has the following casting numbers on it: 312259 CWG B99 At one point I thought I saw that this was an original SOS, can anyone verify or deny that for me? Thank you.

I am pretty sure that 312259 was the casting number for the early ORC S-O-S transmission, but once Ford started their free replacement plan to the switch the old ones to the new style DDC S-O-S transmissions, , they started re-using the cases from the ones that they had replaced the transmissions on, and so that casting number is not an accurate indicator of whether it has the original ORC guts inside or the newer DDC guts. It could be an original trans and still have the ORC guts, or it could be one of the ones that Ford replaced the guts with the newer DDC guts as part of the replacement plan.

If the cover is an even left to right "hump" it is original. If the hump has the appearance of being cut off on the right side, at an angle sloping to the right, it is a second gen.

As Sean said there really no way to know for sure if it's original or a replacement or even a modified original. That being said I'll muddy the water a little more because my 63 4000 that my dad bought new has the 312259 casting code and it is the original transmission from new and it has DDC drive guts in it

Covers were replaced.
