806 Issues

Hello, I'm new to the board so I hope to learn a lot from all of your expertise and maybe you can have some patience with a newcomer. I picked up a 806 diesel with 7400 hrs on it and have a couple of questions. From what I can tell it is a 1965 ser. #5308. I have a leak at the injection pump looks like shaft seals. Pump #s are 33917 6-r92, 37168, 6c40105. Can I replace the seals without pulling the pump off? Or should I send it out to be done? I do have some mechanical ability but no shop manual. The othe question is on the left side of the engine there is a pipe for oil that has a 90 degree bend in it, the pipe is about 1 1/2 dia. it also has a o ring leaking, it looks like alot to come apart to get this pipe out. Any advice? Thanks for the help?

That 1 1/2 pipe on the left side is hooked to the oil cooler, that's a easy fix, but have it clean before you start,taking it apart, just replace the o ring, it should fix that for about 3-4 years. Sounds like u might have a RD Injection pump,i would have a expert work on that.

Ya want real true advice on your 806 from guys that work or worked on them then ya want to talk to me , Pete and Owen . Picture help a lot , Your 65 will have a Rossamaster pump , and just what seals ya talking about ?? throttle shaft seals or are you leaking fuel into the crankcase ?? The PIPE your talking about is somewhat and easy fix IF the old o/Ring has not woren a grove in either of the two flanges , That O/Ring needs to come from Case I H and to remove and replace you need to remove one of the flanges and ya need a new gskt also . If the flanges are toast then ya have two options here ya can have a machine shop make a sleeve and machine out and press in a repair sleeve and go or ya can try and get new ones.

That's what I want, true advice from experts. The pump is leaking externally from the throttle shaft seals. I will post some pics later, Thanks

Throttle shaft seqals on a Rossa pump is somewhat and easy fix If you pay attention of what your doing and you clean up the area , ya want NO DIRT anywhere around the top cover or side of the pump. It is just a small O/Ring and your old one on the shaft got hard and woren . You remove the return line off the top , you remove the throttle linkage on the out side , then you remove the top cover (remember it must be clean ) then ya remove the clip and slid the throttle shaft out and replace the o/ring and lightly lube it and put it back in put everything back as you found it and put the top cover back on and SNUG the screws put the return line back on hook up the linkage and the return line . OH yea i for got to tell ya tunr the fule off at the tank before you start , once done then turn the fuel back on and check for leaks.

As far as the 1 1/2" tube goes mine was leaking out of the front piece which is usually the case. I replaced the o ring a couple time about a year apart and I had felt a slight groove where the O ring was to set, still eventually started leaking again. So the last time I took it apart I cleaned the inside of the front piece around the grooved out real good. I then put some JB Weld in there, let it harden then sanded it out until the tube would slide into a new o ring with a little oil on it for lubrication being pretty snug. That was 5 years ago and its holding so far. Another thing is make sure the tube isn't bent somehow and putting uneven pressure on the o ring. funtwohunt

Oh you have the OLD R D pump . Good pump BUT not as easy . I usually take them to a old friend that has a diesel injection shop and have Harry go thru them as he is about the only one i know of around me that really knows how to work on them as he is and OLD time I H diesel expert , yep older them me .

On the oil pipe remove the to one , yep it can be a pain . Yours is the older engine . Like the one guy said check the flanges where the pipe goes in on both ends for a woren grove . Myself i am not a fan of J B weld , i either replace with a new part of have them machined and press in a repair sleeve.

So, What are you saying, I can't replace shaft seal as described?
