806 low oil pressure

I have a 806 with a 361 engine. I just rebuilt the engine, all bearing clearances plasti gaged all were in spec. I have 30wt in it, oil pressure at rated speed with oil warm is 30 psi, when i drop it to idle it drops to around zero. I always check all galley plugs, they were all in place. I pre-lubed the engine with my home made oil pump tool with the pan off to make sure everything is getting oil. I did notice quite a bit of oil coming from the front of the engine around the gear train (steady stream) when i was lubing everything up, thought it was normal for gear train lubrication, but maybe not? Any help will be appreciated.

Was oil coming down center of engine in front. There is a metering plug in the block right above the timing gears. I think, it is a small 1/8 th inch pipe plug with small hole in it.

Or, was the oil coming down on left side of engine right in front of the oil pump. If so , I would say worn oil pump or leaking safety valve in pump.

The pressure regulating valve is located under rear oil cooler mount near center of left side of block.

The safety valve in pump and pressure regulating valve in block look alike but safety valve is set to open at higher pressure to protect pump.

Pete, I think I know the problem now, I found my orfice plug in a sack with the old cam bearings... Thanks for your help. I guess i get to take the front of the motor apart. Extremely upset with myself on this one....

Hey, been there before. Not on that 806 plug but the first 400 diesel I ever overhauled, after I got it back together and running, oil was shooting out of one of the oil gallery plugs on the out side of the engine. Well, that was the one that was supposed to be inside to lube gears , so I got to tear the whole front end off again also.

Won't tell about some of my other goofs over the years. Well, later maybe.
