806 question

My Dads 806 has 34" rims. I looked at the data site and it had said they came with 38" rims. Did they offer both and why would one pick one over the other?
Thanks,
Charles

All of the early Farmall 806's prior to serial no. 23000 came with 18.4-34's on it stock, although thinner 15.5-38's were available as an option. The clamshell style fenders are pretty full with those tires installed. Later 806's (with square top fenders) had an option for 18.4-38s. As for why they offered different options (there were about 6 different tire size options available) ground clearance, crop spacing, tractor use (row-crop vs. tillage operation), cost, and desired ground speed (larger diameter tires give higher ground speeds in all gears) were all factors as to why different tire diameters and widths were available. The person who originally purchased our 966 optioned it with 18.4-34 tires on it. Makes the cab fender wells look pretty empty...

Most Farmall 806's in our area were sold with 18.4 x 34 or 16.9 x 38. If they were ordered with duals, they were usually 15.5 x 38. Most International 806's were sold with 23.1 x 34.
