injector pump leaks @ rubber hose between pump and engine. What is that hose for? Can it be replaced without removing the pump.

The bypass hose is used in combination with a wire restricted fitting in the top cover. Idea was to return some fuel back to the pump inlet so the filters lasted longer. Most are removed at pump overhaul due to leaks, and a 15830 fitting is put in the top cover in place of the wire fitting, and a plain timing cover is used on the back side also.

Well what it is for, is to supply the pump with fuel, as i remember, and i suppose it is the original hose,so its about 50 years old and pretty much rooted out, Like a old tire!!! Take your serial number to your IH dealer. I am assuming you have the rossa master pump, and not the IH RD pump! ! It can be changed with out removing the pump!

From his question, I would also believe he is talking about the small hose running in behind the pump. Diesel Tech has it covered. I'll just add it was added to these pumps to increase fuel filter life. It was not a good idea and increased the operating temperature of the pump plus earlier failure of the governor elastocast ring. You could probably get the hose off and new one on without removing pump but I just take pump off and get rid of the bypass system with proper fittings.

Ok guys i am 1500, miles from home so i couldnt go out and look at mine, but but Pete is right u want to keep the fuel as cool as possible !!
