820 battery

when I bought my 820 the pony motor did not run, the first thing was to clean the gas tank,carb, and put the charger on the battery. the battery did not take charge so this morning I went to take the battery out, that is when I saw some one had the posts on wrong. question is did I burn the coils?

are you sure its not a positive ground system? many of the old tractors are. also alot of newer battery chargers are polarity protective and simply do not charge if they sense the polarity is reversed. I would check a little closer and make sure first - you may not have damaged anything and for that matter may not have charged any thing either. I would investigate further before writing off the battery or anything else. I've not paid attention before and done the same thing - thats why i mentioned it. Good luck.

I would mention that this tractor is 6 volt.
