In the past week our gator which is a daily use item on our farm has started running rough. It starts hard, idles poorly, and sputters when pushing the gas pedal. But not always. I can drive it and have limited symptoms but my wife can't seem to nurse it along. Happy wife happy life so I need to fix it. Air filter is new and clean as is the ducting to the fuel injection unit. I put in brand new JD injectors this past spring, about 250 hours ago. Oil and fuel filter were changed along with plugs two months ago. I have good blue spark. I checked to make sure the spark arrestor was not plugged on the muffler.

I believe I am having a fuel pressure issue. I pulled the fuel pump out of the tank and the tank is clean. The pump does have different sound than it did a few weeks ago but upon inspection I did not see anything on the filter or causing a blockage. We put about 5 gallons of fuel through the machine a week so fuel is not old. I put Amsoil fuel stabilizer in all my fuel.

There is a fuel pressure regulator on the fuel pump assembly. I think that is my first item to change to see if it helps. I also believe there is a unit on the throttle body that regulates pressure or flow and that is my second though.

However, I am really stumped as to the ultimate issue. JD told me to replace the fuel pump with a $800 rebuild kit. Yikes!

Sounds like what mine was doing and is probably the fuel pump. If it is the old style I don't think you can get that regulator any more. You can check the plug wires they will arc down in the tubes

Is it possible you put too much ams-oil in this tank of fuel? I've had that happen before where small engines wouldn't run right after too much fuel stabilizer.
