830 Horsepower Improvement

I just purchased a 830 2 cylinder John Deere and i am going to restore it and rebuild the motor. I would like to increase the hp for tractor pulling. I would like to be around 90 to 100 hp but i do not want to get to where the tractor is hard to start or will not hold up. Nothing too extreme. Is this able to be done and if so what would it take to get there. Any help would be great. Thanks,Scott

Three important factors to max out before HP mods when tractor pulling.
In order they are #1 Traction, #2 Traction and #3 Traction.

A guy near me put a turbo on his 830. Dyno'd 75hp before and 100hp after, without any extra fuel. That was a few years ago and it's still going. They said they used it to disc and it acted fine. Only problem is, around here it's mostly non-turbo classes up to 10500 or so.

Usually the 2 cylinder diesels do well just by making sure the ENTIRE fuel system is up to specs, and finding a good, road worn set of tires. I don't know how much horsepower they make then, but it's enough. (if there is such a thing!) Experience reading the track makes the difference between 1st and 6th place.

I'm not a puller and can't comment on traction. These guys normally know what they are talking about.

This will require tearing well into the engine but puller camshafts are avail. I have never used one and can't tell you how good (or not so good) they are. I see the following company advertising in magazines:
Custom Built Parts
908 S. Phillips St.
Angola, IA 50511
Phone 515-295-6142
Their ad says a computer readout of your cam is avail.

You might talk to a machine shop that builds high performance heads for automotive applications about a 3 angle valve grind job. You might or might not be throwing good money after bad here.
A low cost starting point is changing to a paper ait filter. I've read on here some pullers run without air filters. You have to really be into it and have a lot of money to spend to run without an air filter.
