830 injection pump leak

The injection pump on my 830 is leaking engine oil at the throttle shaft hole. Can I remove the rear housing to replace the seal or does the whole pump assembly have to be removed?

Thanks for your response.

Throttle shaft leaks are usually the bushing. When they turn with the shaft instead of the shaft in the bushing the aluminum housing bore wears away, causing the leak. Governor housing has to come off as there is a C clip that holds the bushing inside. If the bore is worn really bad the cover and bushing will need replaced. If the bore is good I use locktite on the bushing to keep it from turning. Latest Bosch RSV covers have a two screw retainer plate over the bushing to keep it from turning.

Dieseltech, thanks for the information. Is it possible to remove the back cover without removing the complete pump assembly?

Yes you can remove the rear cover without removing the pump. Be aware of the light spring after the cover is loosened. Needs to be disconnected to get cover off. Needs to be hooked up on reinstallation to prevent a runaway.

The light spring is the starting spring that pulls the rack on until the screw under the front cap limits the travel, not for runaway. It WILL runaway if the governor lever linkage is not reconnected to the rack correctly.
