841 PTO Leaking

My hubby bought a 1958 (assumed from the numbers) and the guy who owned it say he was tractor dumb and said it had no leaks...well, it also had zero fluid in the tractor....filled all the wells and now we see that the PTO has a consistent leak.....we havne't had the time to buy a manual and wanted to know if someone could tell me what all we need to order to fix this PTO the right way! Thanks in advance!

Probably not all that much. I would say just a seal and maybe a bearing. My self I would do the bearing just because and that way you know its good to go. A lot of times the reason a seal leaks is because the bearing is going bad. The job for me would probably take less then an hour to do

Old gave you bang up advice.. since you have the shaft out to do the seal.. put the bearing on as well..

In addition to what the others have said you will also need a PTO cover gasket.
You will also want to check the sleeve on your shaft. This is where the seal rides and takes the wear so it does not cut a grove in the shaft.
