I have an approx 1958 841, gas engine. I'm getting about fed up with it and engine needs a complete rebuild.
However, I would prefer a diesel over gas. Is it a simple swap to replace current engine with a 172 diesel?
If so, are all application 172 blocks the same? Would an engine originally used on say a pump system or a crane or something else work, or will the block have to come from a tractor?
In the future, I may look at switching the entire tractor over to what I want, diesel, 5 speed, a rear axle with a selectable locker of some sort, and a 4wd conversion if I could ever find one (I've heard they used to exist, but can't find anything leading me to believe they're still available)
If these swaps are doable, I'll have more questions over the years for y'all.
Thanks,
JD
