841 sherman lever

I just noticed today that the hi/lo lever hits the left tie rod when turning to the left. It will push it out of low into neutral when turned far enough. I haven't got to drive it more than 140' before I had to rebuild the engine so I haven't had the chance to see this before. I'm close to starting it for the 1st time since rebuild. Anyone have the same experience?
I found that the L rear tire is filled with water, no antifreeze, and a bad rusted out area around the stem on the L rear power adj rim I had not noticed. I'm getting the tires ready before I crank it so I can move it. The R rear tire suddenly developed a cut at the stem and is leaking. Fronts have slow leaks.
After owning this tractor over a year I can't believe I hadn't noticed these problems before. I thought I new it back and forth. TIA

Move 180 degrees, hit the rim hot and use a 1" square bar stock and BFH and make a new flat spot for the valve stem and drill

Good idea on standard rims, John. I caution others though, that if you want PA rims to work right, the valve stem has to be put back in eaxactly the same location it was originally.

It might be a misadjustment of the tie rods. I have a prior 4000 diesel row crop that bumps the throttle linkage on a hard right turn. It has sat in the shed for awhile now, but I figured I needed to adjust the drag link to get it to stop that.

Sherman Combo levers for the 8N will NOT work well on the 100 series. The 'U' is more open on the one meant for the 100's. They look VERY similar until compared side by side but, there IS a difference.

Unfortunately, the repops being offered will only fit the 'N's.

Anyone got a pic of the 801 series lever? I don't think the tie rods are out of adjustment. The wrong lever makes more sense. It is definitely a hi/lo lever-dog leg not straight lever.I haven't been able to pull it out and down like hi/lo, just up, middle and down. Sounds like it may be an overdrive only. Bummer. I sure was hoping for hi/lo. Steering seems to be ok. The ends need new dust covers but look original. The rim is power adjust and the rust has creeped under the adjusting flange just to make it harder to repair. I have a rim to cut up to patch with if a 8N rim will match. Nice patch job you showed. Thanks for the replies.

Here's a picture of the common lever (top) and the correct lever for your tractor (the painted one). The extra space at the bend is for steering arm clearance.

I'd be willing to bet it's a 'Combo'. Although a 'Step' trans WILL easily install into an EARLY 841, nobody in their right mind would go to that much trouble for so little gain. If the handle looks like the one in John Smith's post below, it has to be a 'Combo' and you just haven't been able to access your 'standard' range yet.

This is a pic of my lever. Looks like it may have been bent. Maybe I can heat it up and reshape it.

That sure LOOKS like the correct lever. A bit hard to tell for certain from the angle. Anyway, that is definitely NOT a 'Step' handle. Is this an 'extreme' low range? Does the tractor 'creep' in low range or just drop down about a third.

I haven't had it running long enough to try the sherman. I bought it knowing it had a knock (spun a bearing) on the crank. I'm going to heat it up and reshape it and hope it clears the tie rod. Thanks for the reply.
