I have a 8450 with a quad range trans it's missing 1st&2nd gear in all ranges reverse seems fine all adjustments seem right I pulled the cover off the trans and don't see any bad gears could this be a simple problem or will i need to split it and dig deeper TIA Warren

It sounds like you "could" have a failed low side of the sychronizer, these are just like the smaller tractors only bigger, the low side sees most of the work load.( did you have a lot of gear clashing sounds? or did it go all of a sudden?) you will need to split it and remove the rockshaft to make this repair, not a bad job, but heavey stuff, and high priced parts too.... You can't see the worn parts without tearing it down, but if the shift movement is correct that's most likely what the problem is... double check the shift cable to make sure the shift movement is right, cable failure "could" be causeing it...which would be a much cheaper fix...

The place i work for bought it at a auction without looking at it so i know no history it trys to pull in 1&2 but just slips little or no noise when you go from 4 to 3 it will clunk like it has a lot of play in someting I think it pulled a small scraper pan and we bought it to pull a constrution disc thanks for the insight I will get a manual ordered

If it's a bad sychronizer it will usauly make a high pitch gear clash as it trys to engauge.and will shift to the other range okay..hope this helps to start sorting it out...

If the range selection is good that means bottom shaft okay if if 1-2 is out it is the low gear side of top shaft probably shift fork and clutches. should not be terrible bad fix. but a bit spendy. Do it right or you will do it again.Paul
