On my 3rd Pertronix ignition . 2nd one lasted over 10 years . I replaced Pertronix coil with a epoxy filled Pertronix , replaced 1244A with a new 1244a Pertronix ,new rotor and distributor cap new ngk plugs gapped at .030 Fired up ran good hooked up mower ran less than 10 min. started to sputter under a load . Backed off throttle ran better still stumbling . Pulled 593tsx everything looked good sprayed out with carb choke cleaner reassembled What would have changed ? Just replacing what was already there . It quit on me last week after mowing for 1 hour . First time in 10 years , cooled off and started up , figured it was coil. Nope new one , now it would not even start , new ignition yesterday and it fired right up ? Im struggling ! Any ideas ?

Hi Don,
1244A needs full battery volts on its red wire. Check if ignition switch is resisting, wire end rings are tight on the two terminal block posts etc.
Best to also pull the drain plug on the bottom of the carb and see if 2 min of flow is about a pint. You're right, smptoms could be fuel starvation.😀

Also put a 1/4" gap on your adjustable spark tester, and see if its throwing a nice spark.
You are running supression spark plug wires, right?

Soaked ,wow talk about timing you stated fuel ? After i posted this i went outside looked at the tractor and tweaked the carb turned out the big jet 1/4 turn out and turned out the small jet out 1/8 turn and now not stumbling at all . This was from 2 turns out from bottom on both jets . Mowed for 2 hours and ran great in heavy field grass motor lugged at some points mowing but never stumbled . Been a long time for me not posting , but this group is the best ! Thanks Don !

Nice job fixing it!
Keep remembering to turn the key off, and hopefully your pertronix will last decades!.
Keep an eye on the epoxy coil. Check its primary ohms every now and then. Needs to stay at least 3.0 ohms. If drops to ~2.7 or so, its too low for the ignitor.
