851 Hay roller

Hey I have an 851 new holland roller. It does a pretty good job and Im satisfied with it but I was looking in the manual and there is an adjustment at the top of the baler I was wondering about. It is a pin that you pull out and turn around and it has a "U" shaped piece that the cable runs under. Should this be engaged or not. Reading the manual sounds like you should have the cable under it unless your in bad conditions. All I roll is grass hay and I wondered if this would make the rolls a little tighter. I just want to have it set up as good as possible. Thanks
