855 rockshaft question

My 855 has a belly mower that is controlled by a joystick to the right of the seat. I went to use my 3 point and it would not move. Reading the ops manual I noted the rockshaft valve and opened it. 3 point goes down ever so slowly and mower still works with joystick. I noted in an earlier post from someone that these may have had an auxiliary cylnder and were rare. True anyone?????

There are two different controls that could raise the deck. One is the three point stick, which is not a 4-way joystick, but just an up and down slide. It has the sliding stop and the numerical scale along side. On my 855, there is a linkage hooked to the right hand lift arm that is attached to a bell crank that is mounted just in front of the rear end. When you raise the three point, the link pulls the bell crank, it rotates, and the deck comes up. If you want to use the three point while there is a belly mower attached, you use the plastic crank on the center floor panel to lock the mower in the all-the-way-up position, then go about using your three point up and down. When you are ready to mow, you raise the three point all the way, then drop the plastic crank stop to the desired level, and when you lower the three point, it and the belly mower drop, along with the mower to its set depth position.

If you have the optional hydraulic cylinder kit to raise the deck, you would have a small cylinder mounted underneath where the linkage would normally be. Just lower the deck and look up and to the rear and determine if you have a cylinder or the linkage. This would normally be operated by the "joystick" for the loader, or a separately installed hydraulic valve in a tap some call "power beyond".

When you say "joystick" I think of the 4-way stick used to control outboard hydraulic implements. My 70 loader is controlled by this stick. You could also plug in up to two remote cylinders to say raise a snow blower and rotate the chute.

There is a knob under the seat that can be used to "lock" the rock shaft/three point in the up position. It was about 5 lobes on it to fit your hand. Is this the valve you are talking about? You say the three point does not move, but after you opened the valve it goes down slow and the mower drops. Does it come back up slow when you raise the mower? If so, and I do not have my book at hand, is there a separate rate-of-drop adjustment? Most systems have those so that you can set the speed at which the hitch load drops so that a heavy implement goes down slowly instead of with a "bang". Look a bit farther into your book and you should see under trouble shooting or the lift section the valve or adjustment that covers this. Also make sure that the valve you opened is open all the way.

Hope this helps.
