856 WHEATLAND HYDRAULIC VALVE

I RECENTLY BOUGHT AN 856 WHEATLAND DIESEL THAT HAS BEEN OVERHAULED. EVERYTHING IS WORKING GREAT, BUT ONE OF THE HYDRAULIC VALVES IS NOT WORKING. THE 2ND LEVER (OUTSIDE) WORKS FINE BUT THE 1ST (INSIDE-CLOSEST TO SEAT) LEVER SEEMS STICKY AND WILL NOT WORK. THE LITTLE TINY PLUG IS MISSING IN THE VALVE UNDER THE SEAT. SO I'M THINKING WATER GOT INSIDE THERE AND MAYBE GOT STUFF STUCK? ANY IDEAS HOW TO PROCEED WOULD BE HELPFUL. I DON'T WANT TO TAKE STUFF APART IF NOT NEEDED. BRAKES WORK, PTO WORKS, STEERING WORKS.

The plugs are usually missing, and unless the tractor was sitting on its nose in the rain for years, there's no way enough water got in there to cause rust.

Most likely your issue is due to lack of use. All the linkage is right there under the seat in the front. Very simple. You just need to pull the cover off under the seat, wiggle the lever, watch what does and doesn't move, and work it from there. Get a spray can of PB Blaster and a small hammer to GENTLY tap on things.

With a socket to fit the nut sometimes the nut will come out of the pipe there and you can clean it out. If the pipe turns it will probably not work out that way. I think it will be held with the washer deal that works the detent in there and not come off.
