86 series shift rail

I have an 86 series that the c clip came off and let the shift rail backout of the shift fork. Decided while it was apart i would just replace the rail with the updated one. How do you get the rail out and back in?

Through the third link cover. Remove the cover and I use a couple foot wooden dowel with a good magnet taped to it. It is quite a reach

On the 06,56 series i use a piece of heater hose through the third link hole . I slip a piece of heater hose over the shaft and then it can be slid out of the hole and not dropped in the rearend. It needs to be on about an inch or a bit more.
