860 #94xxx (stamped on trans. boss which makes it a 1956) 5 sp, live pto, trans #NDA 7006B.Center housing #NDA4024B. Pinion is shot, chunks missing from all the teeth. Ring gear is perfect. Pinion # NDA 4610D (has 830 stamped on end) Differential gage # NDA4206, riveted ring gear. According to parts book should be pinion NDA4609B, gage-NDA4204. I have not run across the 4610 # or the 4206 # in any searches. Can anyone shed some light on what I have and options for a pinion replacement?

Numbers cast or stamped into the parts are not necessarily the part number to use for ordering replacements. They could be engineering design numbers that have nothing to do with the part number, or they could be the part numbers used in the assembly line process to differentiate parts destined to be installed in a new tractor vs. parts destined to be sold by the parts department at a dealership. Manufacturers differentiated between the two types of parts for inventory tax purposes.

I googled Ford NDA4609B and it popped right up at Lift Parts Warehouse, $250 bucks or so. Those other numbers are probably the castin number for the gear blank. The Ford part number system is usually letters "NDA" which would indicate the year or model and then "4609" means pinion gear (across the board - universal ID),

Thank you all for help and suggestions. Was going to check out boneyard near me and go from there. There are a pair on ebay right now from an 860. I was planning on just replacing pinion as ring gear is riveted and in great shape. Its heavy work days are done, just light duty work now. Thanks again.

Every year or so someone comes on here with a ring gear that has broken its rivets. make sure that yours are all tight.
