861 front axle

I picked up an 861 the other day. Someone, in its previous life, torched off the ends of the axle and the inner portion of both knees. Anybody know why someone would do that?

I’d like to replace all of the hacking with good original parts. I’m planning on adding a loader on this tractor and I saw some talk about a heavy duty axle or is just the pivot pin?

Do any of you have the parts I need to repair this back to original that can take loader abuse?

Thanks,

Curt

The HD axels are a little different in many areas.
The spindles are larger, wheel bearings are
different, the bolster, bushing, pin and center axel
are all different from the standard. Parts are a little
harder to find but there out there. I?ve got a HD axel
on a 641 that has some wear on the spindles and
have not been able to find replacements. If it were
me I?d put it back the way it was. Or look for a nice
3400 lol.

Back in the 1950s my dad used a new idea in corn planting - wheel track planting using our 2N & 2 row Dearborn mounted planter. In order to get the rows narrower he had the ends of the front axle cut off. Is it possible a previous owner might have done something similar?
